Our key objective:
To relieve the stresses of financial hardships to families and individuals by helping to furnish their homes at affordable prices, and reduce the environment impact of reusable furniture being disposed of by landfill.
Since opening our doors in 2011 we have diverted over 700 tonnes from landfill, and continue to promote reuse, recycling and refurbishment to reduce waste, and make furnishing a home possible for local people on a limited income.
We receive no direct grants from central or local government, but are funded by a combination of self-generated income from the charges we make for our items, revenue for providing services to local authorities, and grants from charitable trusts.
We collect furniture and appliances from households, hotels, recycling centres and other locations. We collect the following items:
Household Furniture: Beds, mattresses, wardrobes, chest of drawers, sideboards, bedside tables, display cabinets, coffee tables, sofas, armchairs, dining tables, chairs and more.
Bric-a-brac & Electricals: ornaments, books, CDs, DVDs, vinyl, crokery, kitchen utensils, TVs, Steroes, blenders, toasters, kettles & much more.
BFC relies solely on donations. This enables us to provide affordable furniture at a price to suit everyone. We offer a free collection service from the Borough of Barnet and surrounding areas. We collect household furniture, electrical items, rugs, curtains and bric-a-brac that are in good, reusable condition, as they will be going into someone’s home.
All beds, settees and armchairs meet the 1988 fire safety standards.
Our opening hours are 9:00-17:00 Monday to Saturday. Our collection times are between 9:00-12.30 and 13.30-16.30 Monday to Friday.
We offer a tiered pricing scheme so people in receipt of benefits or social support pay a little less, but all furniture is priced to be as affordable as possible to all.
