The Stables Horse Activity Centre
Organisation type: Voluntary or Community Sector
The Stables Horse Activity Centre was founded in 1995 by William Marshall who had a vision of running a fully integrated riding centre for all abilities, irrespective of their emotional or physical needs.
Starting with 3 horses and a field, we have grown to 22 horses and fully functioning stables with 4 paddocks and brand new arena. And we are still true to the original dream – using horses and riding as a therapy for all and ensuring social integration to ensure everyone meets their true potential.
We are a registered charity and don’t receive any government funding, relying on income from our lessons and fund raising activities in order to keep the project running.
We don’t just offer lessons but provide an environment where people with learning disabilities can spend time caring for horses and thereby gaining confidence from the special interactions, for example – watering, feeding and mucking out with the support of our team.
